Whole Body DEXA Body Composition Testing
Whether you’re a professional athlete or an ordinary person—body composition (how much muscle and fat you have and, importantly, how they’re distributed in your body) is key to human performance and healthy aging. Our Hologic scanner will tell us not only how much subcutaneous fat you have, but also how much visceral fat you have. Visceral fat surrounds our organs and is the most dangerous fat when it comes to metabolic disease. We also can perform bone density testing of spine, hip and/or forearms.

If you are interested in scheduling a Bone Density Scan, please call 531-721-2241 to make an appointment with our staff. Bone Density Scans cannot be scheduled on-line. We only have certain days on our schedule that a Bone Density Scan can be completed.
Preparing for the DEXA Scan Assessment
Unless instructed otherwise, eat normally on the day of the exam but avoid eating big meals less than 3 hours before your exam and ensure proper hydration. To ensure the data is most accurate, avoid coming dehydrated or after working out. Avoid taking calcium supplements for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.
Wear comfortable clothing without zippers, buttons or any metal material. If you happen to wear clothing with any zippers, buttons or metal material, a pair of hospital scrubs will be provided to you to wear during the exam.
You should not have had a barium study, radioisotope injections, oral or intravenous contrast material from a CT scan or MRI 7 days prior to your DEXA Scan Assessment.
The Body Composition DEXA Scan is a 15-minute appointment and the Bone Density DEXA Scan is a 30-minute appointment.
